Mark Sloan: Technical Manager
Founding member of MJWIC, Mark has been actively involved in the Engineering field for the past 25 years and acquired a range of Engineering skills throughout his career. Mark holds several degrees and is professionally registered with ECSA. He started his career within the industrial power transmission sector where he remained for approximately 10 years and was recognised as a senior mechanical designer. The latter part of this period included successful implementation of his research and development work into fusion welding where manufacturing operations were shifted from cast components to fabrications (Mark holds a post graduate diploma in welding). This led to a career shift into pressure equipment fabrication and design works. Mark continued to further his development and obtained various certifications with the SAIW and SAQCC committees as a competent person for pressure vessels, steam generators as well as an inspector of pressurized equipment. He has spent the past 15 years consulting as a mechanical inspector and design verification engineer on pressure equipment, conducting both in-service and new manufacture inspections. During this period Mark became an active member of SANAS and sat on several technical steering committees (for pressure equipment and steel structures) while also providing auditing services to SANAS. Over the years Mark has been involved in a vast array of projects aligned with the above
discussions, as well as numerous other projects, examples being, renewable energy projects, mechanical inspection work at windfarms as well as hydroelectric plants, preparation of various training seminars, projects in the UK for Southern Scottish Energy, creation of quality management systems, provision of auditing services, etc. Mark is passionate about development and holds a variety of qualifications and is currently a student at the University of Witwatersrand and busy with a master’s degree in the field of energy leadership.
Masiya Ndhlovu: Inspection Specialist
Masiya has been involved in mechanical and welding inspection for approximately 13 years where he has gathered experience primarily within the power generation sector on pressure equipment. Masiya has been involved in a variety of renewable energy mechanical inspection projects on various windfarms around South Africa. Prior to entering the inspection and quality game, Masiya was a welder for 10 years. Masiya holds a BCom degree in Quantitative Management and has an NQF 6 in Total Quality Management. He is an SAIW, Level II welding inspector and holds an international welding and fabrication inspectors qualification. Masiya met with Mark in 2008 on a refurbishment project at Matla Power Station where Masiya was a QC and Mark was the Inspection Authority.
Jacques Botha: Welding Specialist
Jacques has been involved in welding for approximately 20 years where he has gathered experience primarily within the power generation sector on pressure equipment, steel structures and tanks. Jacques started out as a welder and has worked his way up to the level of senior welding supervisor and responsible welding coordinator. Jacques holds a International Welding Specialist qualification. He is also an SAIW, Level I welding and fabrication inspector. Jacques met with Mark in 2010 during a welding presentation which Mark was facilitating for and on behalf of Eskom.
Heinrich Bisschoff: CAD Specialist
Heinrich has been involved in drafting for approximately 14 years where he has gathered experience on 3D modelling and the provision of 2D engineering and manufacturing drawings. The scope of experience gathered has been varied and typical mechanical equipment covered may be seen as, structural work, pressure vessels, storage tanks, hoppers and piping. Heinrich holds a National Drafting Diploma and has completed an array of courses in AutoCAD. Heinrich met with Mark in 2015/16 during a project at Medupi Power Station where Heinrich was responsible for modelling a nitrogen plant and Mark was consulted in as the responsible Engineer to ensure compliance to the PER and conduct HAZOPS and FMECAs etc.
